“Don’t you see? Your skills plus my skills in the ring, tag team.”

Having a strong or even adequate partner can be the difference between success and failure.  As a business owner, you will get to a point where you realize that you can’t do it all on your own. Partnering or hiring people to help pick up your slack is one of the most important things you can do.

I often use a quote from Donnie Deutsch, “I would rather be part of something big than all of something small,” as a way of illustrating how much more a business owner can accomplish when they get out of their own way.  When I hire people I always try to see how much better than me they are at doing things. If they are skilled enough, I can fully let go of an area and trust that the job is being done better than how I left it. This allows me to focus on the things that no one in the company could replace me at, being me.

The not so dirty little secret of success is that people have to like and trust you in order to buy and stay with you. If you get too busy for them, they just will not like you anymore. By hiring the right people, you can stay close to the client and still deliver what they need. You should always be on the lookout for people with skills.
